About Me
My name is Nancy Alers, and my journey both personal and professional has always been shaped by a deep commitment to mental wellness, equity, and community healing.
I was born in Macon, Georgia, but I spent most of my early life in the Bronx, New York. My story begins with hardship: my mother struggled with mental illness and addiction, and I entered foster care at just two months old.
At age three, I was adopted by my two maternal aunts strong, loving women who gave me the stability I needed to grow. It was June O’Neal, then a DFCS worker and now the executive director of The Mentors Project, who helped me make that life-changing transition.
New York shaped me, but I always felt a pull back to my roots back to Macon. I couldn’t stop thinking about my mother and others like her, living on the margins without access to proper support. So in 2014, I moved home with a renewed purpose.
That decision led me to co-found ParkRx Macon-Bibb County with Navicent Health’s Healthy Communities. Then in 2020, I founded Macon Head Space after receiving a grant through the Emerging City Champions Program in Toronto, supported by the Knight Foundation. That grant helped bring my vision of a Mental Health Pop-Up Gym to life.

Today, I serve as the Program Manager at One World Link, where I lead a team of AmeriCorps Members working with local nonprofits to expand access to job training and employment equity. Previously, I worked as a Communications and Development Associate at the Community Foundation of Central Georgia.
I earned my B.S. in Advertising from Syracuse University in 2012 and have continued growing through programs like Leadership Macon (Class of 2018), Historic Macon Foundation’s Leadership Institute, and Kingdom Life Church’s Urban CEO program.
In 2025, I began sharing what I’ve learned beyond just local projects. Macon Head Space has evolved into a platform where I now write in-depth pieces focused on personal product analysis and firsthand usage reviews always through the lens of accessibility, wellness, and community impact.
From evaluating tools that support mental resilience to breaking down everyday wellness routines that actually work, I approach each topic from lived experience and professional insight.
This site reflects my belief that wellness is not a luxury it’s a right. And whether I’m discussing therapy in the park or reviewing products that claim to ease anxiety, I keep the same mission at heart: to make mental health approachable, practical, and rooted in the realities we live every day.
When I’m not working or writing, you can probably find me walking my dog Duchess, traveling with friends, or catching up with neighbors in my Macon community. This is home. And I’m grateful to serve it.
